In addition to being the Lead Pastor of Coffee Creek Church, I’m also a financially contributing partner. My family gives at least 10% of our pre-tax income to our church (which makes for an amazing tax deduction come April 15!), and I wanted to share some of the reasons why.
First, I believe in the mission of Coffee Creek. I’m proud to be a part of a family that cares about loving God and doing good. I’m proud to be a part of a place where the mission is to reach unchurched people in the name of Jesus Christ.
Every time I hear a story about a family coming back together or a teen who decides to follow Christ or a dad who finally comes to church with his family, I know that my contributions played a small part in that. People’s lives are being changed and Coffee Creek Church is a part of that.
Jesus said that our treasure would follow our heart, so because my heart is with Coffee Creek, I desire to financially support it on a regular basis.
Second, I want to be an example to my boys. I’m worn out hearing adults complain about the next generation…they're pretty much just like we were at their age! I want to raise kids that care about others. That does not happen by accident. So I'm attempting to model what that looks like intentionally.
If I tell them they should care about others and turn right around and spend 100% of our income on our hobbies and fun stuff just for us, they will learn the lesson not through my words, but by my actions. We all have a responsibility to teach the next generation generosity, but we can’t do that if we are not generous ourselves.
Finally, I give because God directs me to give. In the Old Testament and in the New Testament - it's clear that a lifestyle of generosity is taught and modeled by God to His children.
Coffee Creek's giving philosophy is found in 2 Corinthians: “The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has made up his mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”
Every month, we automatically give to Coffee Creek Church because that honors God. We want to honor God, even when it’s difficult, even when things are tight. There have been times that we’ve gone without something, but we never cancel the contribution to the church.
My family does 100% of our giving online - since 2009. I set us up a giving profile @ www.coffeecreek.cc/give and we chose to make our twice monthly contributions automatic. It’s convenient, secure, and it keeps me from forgetting to do what’s most important to my family.
I encourage you to automate the important by setting up your online giving today. Check it out by clicking here.
